Good Harbor Vineyards Makes Debut with International Wine Media Brand
Six of Good Harbor’s delicious wines have received recognition from Decanter. Decanter is the world’s leading wine media brand. Receiving high marks from Clive Pursehouse include our Blanc de Blanc, Blanc de Noirs, 2021 Unoaked Chardonnay, 2020 Pinot Noir-Zweigelt, 2020 Late Harvest Riesling, and 2021 Pinot Grigio. Read the reviews for each wine below:
Blanc de Blanc
Rating: 92 Points
“A delicious wine from the flagship Michigan producer with aromatics of petrichor, toasted biscuit and white flowers. The palate is rich and lush. Baked pear, bruised apples and almond pastry cream. A bellwether wine from Michigan that makes an excellent case for the region, a beautiful depth of fruit, and a fine, elegant mousse.”
Blanc de Noirs
Rating: 91 Points
“A nicely made Blanc de Noirs from a south-facing vineyard at 330m and 3 km from Good Harbor Bay in Northwest Michigan. This wine is wildly aromatic, and though done in the Charmat method it offers great depth and richness in its aromatics. Honey, beeswax and rich pollen, along with ripe stone fruit jump forward. The palate is surprisingly opulent, with candied ginger, honeycomb and grilled peach flavours. A real delight.”
2020 Pinot Noir-Zweigelt
Rating: 90 Points
“Spätburgunder? Austrian Zweigelt? Beaujolais? None of the above, but this lithe, fresh blend of Pinot and Zweigelt from the northern shore of Lake Michigan could fool a few folks. Aromas of fresh, tart cranberry, raspberry and fresh mint, and faint notes of savoury dried herbs are evocative of old-world cool climate red wines. The palate is lively, fresh and full of verve. Fresh strawberries, basil, turned earth, smoke, and Montmorency cherries mark a fresh, vibrant, long-lived finish.”
2021 Unoaked Chardonnay
Rating: 89 Points
“This chardonnay done in stainless is effusively aromatic and brimming with cut green apples, ripe grapefruit, and white floral aromas. The palate is lively with freshly cut early-season peach, candied lemon and ripe cantaloupe. The finish ends quickly.”
2021 Pinot Grigio
Rating: 89 Points
“This is a surprisingly sophisticated Pinot Grigio from northern Michigan. Its aromatics are at first bright and fruit but quickly give way to a savoury character—apricot transitions to sorrel, cut grass and sea spray. The palate is rich and complex, with honeyed pear, ginger and almond notes. The finish is long, and the texture is complex and layered—a well-made American Pinot Grigio.”
2020 Late Harvest Riesling
Rating: 88 Points
“A richly sweet Riesling with undeniably complex aromatics. Petrol notes, ultra-ripe pineapple, and grilled peaches burst from the glass. The palate is lively; the sweetness, honeyed peaches and pears settle alongside tropical fruits throughout, with notes of stone and beeswax.”
Earlier this year, some of our wines also made their debut in Robert Parker Wine Advocate. We were the only Michigan winery and Midwest winery to be included in the article by Mark Squires.
As a young, emerging wine region, we appreciate the continued recognition from wine publications like Decanter. Recognition like this helps not only wine reviewers but also consumers see how wines from wine regions like Michigan continue to change and evolve over time.
Make sure to stop into our tasting room and try these mouthwatering wines for yourself. Our team of knowledgeable wine stewards would love to tell you more about how we have been able to make such amazing wines for nearly 50 years.
