Red and Rosé Wines
Red wine is fermented from dark-skinned grapes and includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Merlot. You can expect a better tasting wine the longer it ages in the bottle. Our red blends produce a vast array of aromas and flavors, including fruits, herbs, flowers, spices, and earthy elements. Red wine is also more tart, or bitter, than white wine – which typically has a smoother profile.
Rosé wines are especially suited for warmer days, making it the perfect wine for picnics and summer days by Lake Leelanau. Our winemakers start by juicing red grapes and allowing the juice to soak with the skins for two to three days. Eventually, the juice takes on a pink color, which gives the wine the desired coloring.
