Austrian Varietals Grown On Leelanau Peninsula Highlighted By Premier Wine Academy
The Leelanau Peninsula is one of the five American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) in the State of Michigan. While the peninsula - and Michigan as whole - has been known for growing superb Riesling, Austrian varietals like the Zweigelt that Good Harbor Vineyards’ offers, have grown in popularity throughout the region.
As Bill Newman from the Napa Valley Wine Academy says, the Leelanau Peninsula region has a similar growing season to that of many of the growing areas in Austria but the land is drastically different. The Leelanau Peninsula has a cooler maritime climate due to the Great Lakes while Austria experiences river-influenced continental climates.
We are honored to be featured in Newman’s latest article Austrian Varietals find a Home in Northern Michigan’s Leelanau Peninsula and to share our story with him! While our Zweigelt has been added to our library wines, we invite you to try our popular and delicious Pinot Noir-Zweigelt.
